Remembering Elaine…

Elaine D. Wright was born on February 3, 1956, in Indianapolis, where she grew up. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1974, after which she moved to Bloomington to attend Indiana University. At IU, Elaine earned a bachelor of science degree in Criminal Justice from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, with a second major in Spanish.

The youngest member of her family, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy Wright, and two sisters, Vera and Mary.

Since August 1980, Elaine worked full-time at IU in several offices, including the Office of Student Financial Assistance, the Slavic Languages and Literatures Department, the Telecommunications Department, and the Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Department. In Spring 2010, Elaine received her 30-year service award from the university.

Elaine was a devout Christian who lived her faith with all her heart. She was extremely caring, completely trustworthy, generous, loyal, honest, and hard working. She was a lovely lady and a true friend. Elaine loved to laugh and spend time with friends. She also loved children, shopping, going out to eat and helping others.

Elaine also greatly enjoyed learning languages and after her graduation from IU took classes in Russian, French, Japanese, Hebrew, and Arabic. Her dream was to someday travel to visit friends and former colleagues in various parts of the world. She also hoped to teach English as a second language.
Elaine was beloved by her adopted family in Bloomington and Indianapolis, by neighbors, colleagues and friends here and abroad. We will truly miss her.
